Ingredients for a Huge Pot of Chili
To make a large pot that serves about 10-12 people, here’s what you’ll need:
Protein
- 2 lbs ground beef (80-85% lean for the best flavor)
- 1 lb ground pork (optional for added richness)
- 1 lb smoked sausage, diced (adds a delicious smoky flavor)
Vegetables
- 1 large onion, finely diced
- 2 bell peppers (one red, one green), chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 jalapeños, minced (optional, for added heat)
Canned Goods
- 2 cans (15 oz each) diced tomatoes
- 2 cans (15 oz each) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (15 oz each) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 2 cans (15 oz each) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
Broth and Liquids
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1 cup dark beer (optional, adds depth to the flavor)
Spices and Seasonings
- 3 tbsp chili powder
- 2 tbsp ground cumin
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp oregano
- 2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 tbsp sugar (balances acidity)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
