How to Make Deep Fried S’mores
Step 1: Assemble the S’mores
Begin by assembling your s’mores. Place a piece of chocolate and a marshmallow between two graham cracker squares. Press gently to secure the sandwich. Repeat this process to assemble all six s’mores. Set them aside for now while you prepare the batter.
Step 2: Prepare the Batter
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk. Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until a smooth, thick batter forms. The consistency should be thick enough to coat the s’mores without dripping too much. Set the batter aside.
Step 3: Heat the Oil
In a deep pot, pour in enough vegetable oil to submerge the s’mores, about 2-3 inches deep. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a kitchen thermometer to maintain the correct temperature, as this will ensure that your s’mores fry evenly without absorbing too much oil.
Step 4: Coat and Fry the S’mores
Once the oil is hot, take each assembled s’more and dip it fully into the batter, making sure to coat it evenly on all sides. Carefully place the battered s’more into the hot oil. Fry the s’mores in batches, about 2-3 at a time, so you don’t overcrowd the pot. Fry each s’more for 2-3 minutes or until the outside is golden brown and crisp. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Step 5: Dust and Serve
While the s’mores are still warm, sprinkle them generously with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness. For a more indulgent finish, drizzle them with chocolate sauce or caramel sauce.
