Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Season the Steak and Shrimp
- Season both sides of the steaks generously with salt and pepper. Let them rest at room temperature for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
- For the shrimp, sprinkle with a pinch of salt and pepper, setting them aside until ready to cook.
2. Sear the Steaks
- In a large skillet or cast-iron pan, heat the olive oil and butter over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and hot.
- Place the seasoned steaks in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer if desired. This will achieve a beautiful brown crust on each side.
- Remove the steaks from the skillet and place them on a plate. Cover loosely with aluminum foil to keep them warm while you prepare the shrimp and sauce.
3. Cook the Shrimp
- In the same skillet, add a touch more olive oil if needed, then add the shrimp.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Be careful not to overcook, as shrimp can become rubbery.
- Remove the cooked shrimp from the skillet and place them with the steaks. Cover to keep warm.
4. Prepare the Creamy Mushroom Sauce
- Melt the butter in the same skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook, stirring frequently, for about 5-7 minutes or until the mushrooms release their juices and become golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the broth and bring to a simmer, allowing it to reduce slightly to concentrate the flavors.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, and Dijon mustard. Stir well to combine all ingredients into a creamy sauce.
- Let the sauce simmer for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste, adjusting as needed.
5. Combine and Serve
- Return the cooked steaks and shrimp to the skillet, spooning some of the creamy mushroom sauce over the top.
- Sprinkle with fresh chopped parsley for a pop of color and a hint of freshness.
- Serve hot, spooning extra mushroom sauce over the steak and shrimp for added indulgence.
