Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast, letting it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Step 2: Prepare the Chocolate Filling
- In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer.
- Remove the cream from heat and pour it over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl.
- Stir until the chocolate melts completely, creating a smooth ganache.
- Mix in the vanilla extract and allow the ganache to cool slightly before transferring it to a piping bag.
Step 3: Shape the Donuts
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about ½ inch (1.2cm) thickness.
- Use a round cutter to cut out circles, about 3 inches (7.5cm) in diameter.
- Place the dough circles on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
