For the Garlic Butter Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

For the Creamy Mashed Potatoes:

  • 2 lbs (900g) russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • Fresh chives, chopped (for garnish)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Preparing the Creamy Mashed Potatoes:

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add a pinch of salt and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain and return to the pot.
  2. Mash the Potatoes: Using a potato masher or ricer, mash the potatoes until smooth. For a creamier texture, you can also use a hand mixer on low speed.
  3. Incorporate the Cream and Butter: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream and butter over low heat until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm. Gradually add this mixture to the mashed potatoes, stirring continuously until well combined.
  4. Add Sour Cream and Seasonings: Stir in the sour cream, garlic (if using), Parmesan cheese (if using), salt, and pepper. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
  5. Keep Warm: Cover the pot and keep the mashed potatoes warm over low heat while you prepare the steak bites.
